What is Dong-Quai?


Dong quai is a plant root,member of the celery family, indigenous to China. It is also known as Angelica sinensis or "female ginseng".Its root is commonly known in Chinese as dong quai or danggui and is widely used in Chinese traditional medicine to treat gynecological ailments, fatigue, mild anemia and high blood pressure. It is also a rich source for niacin, vitamin E, iron, cobalt and essential oils.The principal active constituents of dong quai roots appear to be groups of coumarins, ferulic acid and ligustilide.It has white flowers with a green hue that bloom from May to August, and the plant is typically found growing in moist mountain gullies, meadows, along river banks and in coastal areas.

What is the effective dosage of Dong Quai supplementation?

• The effective dosage is 2 to 4 grams per day in divided dosage. Alternatively, 3-5 ml of tincture may be taken three times per day.
