What is Dandelion?
Maca is a plant. It is also known as Lepidium meyenii, native to the high Andes of Peru. The stem is short and decumbent. The frilly leaves are born in a rosette at the soil surface, and are continously renewed from the center as the outer leaves die. The off-white, self-fertile flowers are born on a central raceme, and are followed by 4-5 mm siliculate fruits, each containing two small (2-2.5 mm) reddish-gray ovoid seeds. It is the root of maca which has been used medicinally for centuries to enhance fertility in humans and animals. Today It is still eaten as food, it may be roasted like potato or may be prepared like jam, juice and pudding.
What is the effective dosage of Maca root supplementation?
The effective dosage is 3 to 6 gram per day. As an extract, 1gram/day is a typical dose.
What are the benefits of Maca root supplementation?
